About Signalyzeª

This document contains a summary of Signalyze's features and capabilities. A detailed, image-rich description of the program is available here.

Signalyze is a highly interactive signal analysis program for the Macintoshª. It is used by many researchers for analyzing human speech, non-human communication and music, and is also capable of analyzing kinematic signals.

Equip a PowerMac, G3 or G4 with Signalyze, and you have all you need to record, analyze and reproduce professional 16-bit sound.

Features

Signalyze is multilingual:

  • English, French or German menus & on-line help;
  • Italian on-line help is available.

Signalyze can:

  • work with up to 100 signal files simultaneously (limited by available memory);
  • maintain synchronous or asynchronous alignment for all or any signals;
  • open files of all major software package formats (and includes a utility for translating your files into the format of your choice);
  • work with both 8- and 16-bit sampling & signal analysis;
  • directly manipulate loaded signal file names & sample values;
  • perform all standard spectral analysis:
    • narrow- & wide-band spectrum & spectrogram (7 bandwidths)
    • pitch extraction (3 routines)
    • filtering (5 routines)
    • Linear Predictive Coding (LPC)
    • cepstrum & cepstrogram
    • cone kernel spectrum & spectrogram
    • long-term averaged spectrum;
  • perform all standard signal editing:
    • cut, paste, copy
    • taper
    • splice;
  • perform both simple & complex signal transformations:
    • up- & down-sampling
    • derivative differences
    • power & RMS envelopes
    • zero crossings;
  • take direct measures for manual scoring:
    • sample number & value
    • duration
    • frequency
    • dB amplitude difference
    • frequency difference;
  • slow down or speed up playback (20%-500%).

Signalyze has:

  • an extensive on-line help & reference guide;
  • a directly accessible text window for manual scoring, with user-set content preferences;
  • an extensive signal labeling facility;
  • a comprehensive macro & button playback system for automating complex signal analysis task;

and a whole lot more!

To test-drive Signalyze for yourself, please download the 3.11 demo from the downloads page. The demo is fully functional except that it will only open the accompanying file, and will not save any derivative files.

Cost

  • individual license: US$350
  • departmental license: US$700

License fees include the extensive documentation in pdf format and tech support via email.

Compatibility

Signalyze continues to remain fundamentally compatible with G3's and G4's running up to OS 9.1. What compatibility issues there are will be addressed in an upcoming update; these are well documented in this site's known issues page.

If you have any doubts about how well Signalyze will function on your machine with your system, please download the 3.11 demo from the downloads page and give it a test run before purchasing.

Updating/upgrading

  • Registered users of Signalyze 3.0 - 3.11 should download the updater; it addresses many issues and incompatibilites.
  • Registered users of earlier versions, please contact Agora Language Marketplace for more information on upgrading your license.
