Increasing Available MemoryThis page discusses 4 options for increasing the amount of memory your machine has available, listed here in order of recommendation:
Upgrading your RAM (I.e. buying RAM chips) is highly recommended for all Signalyze users on newer machines. The cost of RAM for G3's and G4's is so low now that there is almost no reason not to upgrade. - tell me more RAM Doubler is recommended for those using older Macs; on these machines RAM Doubler can be significantly less expensive than the corresponding amount of physical RAM. - tell me more Virtual Memory is only recommended on machines with limited RAM, where upgrading the physical RAM and purchasing RAM Doubler are not options (System 7.5 or above is required). - tell me more Using as little RAM as possible for your System/OS is only recommended as a last resort where the other options are not available. The easiest way to achieve this is to run Signalyze with all extensions off--Restart while holding down the Shift key. This will also avoid any extension conflicts that might occur. If there are some extensions that you absolutely must have while running Signalyze, then you can either use an extension manager to create a bare-bones extension set, or move the extensions out of the System Folder manually and Restart. (In tight memory situations, be sure to disable fonts you don't need as well.) |
