III. Set Signalyze's signal & calculation memory

Signalyze's signal & calculation memory are set in the Signalyze Startup Options dialog window. Follow the steps below:

1. Start up Signalyze, if it isn't already running.

2. Open up the Startup Options... dialog via the Edit menu.

3. Set the Calculation Memory at the top of Signalyze's Startup Options... window (the bottom field of the two).

    Recommended: 4M if available (with 16M overall program memory)
    Absolute Minimum: 300k if memory is very limited

4. Set the Signal Memory (the top field of the two).

    Suggested: (Signal Memory) = (Overall program memory) - (Calculation memory)
    Signalyze will set Signal memory as close to this figure as possible when it starts up.

5. Close the Startup Options... window by clicking Save.

6. Quit Signalyze and start it up again.

7. Verify your settings in the About Signalyze... window via the Apple Menu.


If there is much less memory indicated in the window than you requested, something prevented Signalyze from getting all the memory you asked it to. Be sure and check the following:

  • make sure you have set Signalyze overall program memory large enough to be able to give you the signal and calculation memory you requested (see the setting overall memory page for more information)
  • make sure you have enough RAM available so that the Finder can give Signalyze all the memory you told it to ask for (see the determining available memory page for more information)

If you are having problems with crashes while you are generating splines or spectrograms, it might be due to your Mac's System 'bumping into' Signalyze's Calculation Memory.

If you cannot increase your Mac's memory, or Signalyze's overall program memory, try this:

  • reduce your Signal Memory to allow Signalyze to get more calculation memory
  • Quit Signalyze
  • start it up again
  • try the calculation again

Hopefully the calculation memory you gained will be enough to successfully complete the calculation.
